Jesse (Ethan Hawke), az amerikai srác, és Celine (Julie Delpy), a francia végzős diáklány a Budapestről Bécsbe tartó vonaton ismerkednek össze. A két fiatal kellemesen elbeszélget az út során, melynek következtében a fiú arra kéri a lányt, tartson vele a bécsi éjszakában.
