Egy hat éves afganisztáni kislány nem akar mást, mint rendes gyerekként iskolába járni, tanulni írni és olvasni. Ám a kemény muszlim törvények tiltják, hogy a nők részt vegyenek az oktatásban, és senki nem akarja befogadni a lányt maguk közé. Egy csapat fiú ráadásul, miközben épp "tálibosat" játszik, megtámadja a lányt és széttépi az iskolai füzeteit.
